No two cats are the same. They possess many unique personalities and characteristics. There are many common feline behaviors, such as purring, grooming, kneading and climbing that each cat does share, but will engage in them differently. You must pay attention to your cat’s behavior and determination on what is consider “normal” for your cat based on passed observations.

Cat Purring

Often enough, you have seen your cat purr when it's happy, content, and comfortable. Your Cat, excessively purring can be a sign of stress due to unfamiliar environment or because it's sick or worse, injured.

Thoroughly examine your cat or take them to a veterinarian especially if the cat is not eating, drinking or otherwise acting “normal.”

Feline Grooming

Cats during the course of the day will typically groom itself. Grooming for cats helps them stay tidy, but also helps them keep warm.

If you notice your cat grooming excessively especially in certain areas which can cause loss of fur, you should bring your cat to the veterinarian for an examination.

Cat’s Kneading

A common cat behavior is kneading which is when a cat pushes their front paws in and out. You have usually seen them exhibit this on pillows, carpet, furniture or a person’s chest or head.

If kneading is causing damage, make sure to keep your cat’s nails trimmed. If your cat is kneading you and is causing any type of discomfort towards you then distract your cat by petting, or playing with them. Avoid punishing your cat for kneading because the behavior is normal.

Climbing

Cats are excellent climbers and love high points. This behavior is common and it give them a better view of their surroundings.

It is recommended you buy a cat perch that can support your cats weigh and that is safe. If you notice your cat likes to climb on to high shelves or above the refrigerator and cabinets, make sure the area is clear of items that could hurt or trap your cat.

Cat Scratching

Cats often scratch to keep their nails clean and short. This may lead to them scratching on furniture or walls.

It is recommended if you have cats to purchase a scratching post. You can discourage a cat from scratching certain areas by applying double-sided tape or by covering the furniture with protective material. Eventually you can direct your cat to scratch on acceptable objects and minimize unwanted scratches in the household.

Night Time

Your cat may often display an abundance of energy and you are sometimes awakened in night by your cat running madly around the house including on top of your body.

You can help modify this behavior by playing with them before bedtime and overtime you should be able to modify your cats sleep schedule.

Talkative Cats

Cats are vocal by howling, hissing, meowing, and growling to communicate with other cats and humans.

Cats would often meow if they are experiencing hunger, loneliness or simply welcoming you. If you often notice your cat excessively meowing then that can be a sign your cat is experiencing pain or injury.
